Pond Story

Behind the Scenes at the Ivy Room

What does a Neil Diamond cover band and pools of faux water lilies have in common?

Well, they both showed up at the Ivy Room to celebrate Mr and Mrs Pond’s 50th wedding anniversary.  Funny that in the month leading up, I didn’t get significance of the floating flower bowls that my client had requested. It was during sound check when I finally put two and two together. Insert eyeball and face slap emoji here. The song Sweet Caroline was playing at the time. It would be a funnier story if Mrs Pond’s name was Caroline, but It is not.

These robust coral charm peonies with their tassel centers made a pretty good stand in for a water lilies. Don’t you think?

Here I am making ponds. Having the leaves under the glass was a nice effect. That’s mylar by the way.

For the entry table, I told her to leave it up to me, and I would, "Blow it out with the season's best.”

Designing on large scale is like partner dancing. You've gotta move back and forth and spin a lot and your dance partner smells really, really good! It's a rush of instinct as the clock is ticking, so no reworking or fiddling.

Note; my immaculate work area. Bill Heffernan always said to, “make yourself a little flower shop when you’re onsite.”

TA DA!!

It was nicest install day with my daughter Megan. She arranged lunch and made sure I stayed hydrated. She also took all these awesome photos, except this one obviously.

Happy Anniversary to the Ponds!
